Launch CHA Executive Director Selected For WKKF Community Leadership Network

  • Tuesday, February 5, 2019

Launch CHA Executive Director Hal Bowling has been selected to join the W.K. Kellogg Foundation Community Leadership Network, a fellowship that is a collaboration between the Center for Creative Leadership and WKKF. "This fellowship serves as a way for local leaders from across the nation to connect, grow and lead transformational change on behalf of children, families and communities," officials said.

Selected from over 800 applicants, Mr. Bowling, along with 79 other leaders, will participate in the 18-month fellowship program aimed at developing local leaders who can unite people to create transformational change toward a more equitable society for all.

The selected leaders will participate in different cohorts, with four of them being for leaders who are from one of Kellogg Foundation’s “priority places” (Michigan, Mississippi, New Mexico and New Orleans). Mr. Bowling was one of only 17 individuals selected for the national cohort of leaders outside those places.

Officials said, "The WKKF Community Leadership Network is unique for its focus on 1) advancing racial equity and racial healing in communities, 2) marshalling our collective resources and efforts to ensure all children have the opportunity to thrive, and 3) fostering a connected network of local leaders to drive transformational change. Through hands-on training, mentoring and practical experience, this fellowship prepares leaders to rise to the challenges of our time and offers opportunities to understand the embedded racism in our systems, learn practical approaches to heal and unite communities around solutions."

“I’m very honored to have been selected for this fellowship,” says Mr. Bowling. “It’s a reflection on the work of our entire team, not just me. There is so much to learn from leaders in other cities, and I plan to bring as much as I can back to Chattanooga so that we can continue to be a place where children and families thrive.”
