Wanda Panter Thomas, of Hixson, died on Tuesday, March 26, 2019.
She was preceded in death by her husband, E.S. “Gene” Thomas who died in 1988 after 32 years of marriage.
She is survived by her brother Lynn Panter (Pat) of Soddy Daisy and her sister, Barbara Panter Bennett (Bud) of Jacksonville, FL. She was the proud aunt of Myra Panter Bushnell (Scott), Jimmy Panter (deceased), Steven Johnson (Linda), Michael Johnson (Lisa), Dr. Gregg Johnson, Dr. Susan Bennett Slavicz (Ed), David Bennett (Catherine), Scott Bennett (Michelle), Karen Panter Ward (Billy), Linda Panter, and Janet Panter (Jim Bullard). She is also survived by special friends Nita Shelton and Jean Brown.
She was also preceded in death by her brother, Jim Panter (Rosalie) and her sister, Melba Panter Johnson (Jimmy).
Wanda graduated from Chattanooga High School in 1954. She received a certificate in accounting from Chattanooga State and also graduated from UTC with a B.S. degree in accounting. She was retired from TVA. She was a past president and member of Valleybrook Community Club, a past president and member of Red Bank Lioness Club, the founder and past president of the Widows Club of Alhambra Shrine, a volunteer with Bicentennial Volunteers Inc. (a non-profit organization for TVA retirees), and a member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
Wanda will be laid to rest with her husband Gene and her parents, Nell and Willard Panter, at Hamilton Memorial Gardens. At her request, there will be no visitation or services.
The family would like to thank Kim Walker Caregivers for the kind people who took such good care of Wanda-especially Melissa along with Sheila and Susan. The family also appreciates the support provided to Wanda by Hospice of Chattanooga. Memorial donations made be made to Hospice of Chattanooga in Wanda’s honor.
