Freshman Shayna Ryan drives past a defender in Saturday’s match
The Reinhardt Eagles dominated the second half to earn a 19-8 victory over the Lee women's lacrosse team on Saturday afternoon from the Lee Soccer Field.
The two clubs went back and forth in the first half with the Eagles holding a 9-7 advantage at the intermission.
Becca Broadwick led the Lady Flames with three goals to move her season total to a team-leading 29.
Rachel Giles added a pair of goals and Emma Hill and Kaylyn Dillon also found the back of the net.
"Reinhardt hustled through the heat today and beat us to the ground balls 30 to 19," said Lee head coach Derrel Martin. "We were able to match them early and even held the lead but we ran out of steam in the second half. We won draw controls 11 to 5 in the first half but couldn't maintain that pace in the second.
The Lady Flames led 7-4 with 8:40 remaining in the first half before the Eagles rattled off a 12-1 to end the match. Morgan McGhee, Audrey Frost and Katie Yarish led the visitors with four goals each. Yarvish added six assists while McGhee dished off four.
"Reinhardt is a team that runs a simple cutting offense but their feeds were on point and we were a step behind on defense," admitted Martin.
The Lee first-year coach would go to single out two of his all-conference players, "Kaylyn Dillon hustled the whole game for us and picked up five draws and two ground balls. Becca Broadwick picked up five draw controls and three goals."
Erin Benjamin had five saves in goal for the Eagles to earn the victory. Lee keeper Abby Sanders recorded seven saves in her 47:39 in net before giving way to Camille Davenport for the final 12:21.
The loss drops Lee to 4-9 while Reinhardt improves to 12-1 on the year.
The Lady Flames will play their final home match of the regular season and recognize their three seniors on Wednesday as they jump back into GSC play with a pivotal match against rival Shorter at 6 p.m.
