In a matchup between the Covenant women's soccer team and visiting Birmingham Southern, it was the weather that ended up with a victory.
The host Lady Scots and the Panthers waited through a 55-minute weather delay to start Tuesday night's match. When play started, the teams got in nearly 30 minutes before flashes of lightning danced across the sky forcing the teams off the field. After waiting 30 more minutes, the decision was made to call off the rest of the match.
Officially, no statistics from the contest will be counted.
In the action, Covenant grabbed a 1-0 lead in the seventh minute when Megan Raksu scored.
Kailey Burrell sliced a ball into the box where Rasku gathered and got her shot past Birmingham Southern keeper Blakely Jones for the goal.
The Panthers evened the score in the 19th minute on a Sydney Barrow strike, assisted by Josy Gray.
Play was halted in the 30th minute as more lightning became visible in the area.
Covenant will travel to face Belhaven on Saturday in Jackson, Miss. Match time is set for noon eastern (11 a.m. central).
