Lawrence H. Phillips, Sr., 94, of Chattanooga, passed away on Tuesday, November 24, 2020.

Lawrence was born on July 13, 1926, in Hixson, to James B. and Callie S. (McKelvey) Phillips. Both have preceded him in death.

Lawrence served our country in the U.S. Army Merchant Marines during WWII and during the Korean Conflict. He received a certificate as a draftsman through Kirkman Tech. High School.

Lawrence retired from Container Corp. of America after 39 years of service as a salesman/engineer and developed three patents (seen in frozen dinner packaging, Krystal packaging and KFC bucket packaging). He also retired from Shorewood Printing and Mechanical Packaging after 14 years of service and was instrumental in getting Shorewood into the packaging end of business.

Lawrence enjoyed playing golf, was an avid bowler, and enjoyed big band music from the ‘40s. Lawrence loved baseball and was a staunch Atlanta Braves fan.

He is survived by his children, Georgia A. (Randy) Rawiszer, David P. (Susan) Phillips, Lawrence H. (Mary Lu) Phillips, Jr.; and six grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, Dec. 4, at 2:30 p.m. at Chattanooga National Cemetery with Pastor David Hall officiating and where military honors will be performed by the U.S. Army. We respectfully request that all current CDC mandates be adhered including face coverings and social distancing during the graveside service.

Expressions of love may be sent to the Phillips Family at www.heritagechattanooga.com.

Arrangements are by Heritage Funeral Home, 7454 E. Brainerd Road.
