Ronald Williams
Ronald G. Williams, 74, went to be with the Lord on December 18, 2020. He was born on July 2, 1946 in Somerset, Kentucky, to Charles C. Williams Jr. and Betty Lee (Gregory) Williams.
As a young man, Ronnie achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America. He went on to graduate from Brainerd High School in the class of 1964. He then began his college career, but paused to serve his country during the Vietnam War in the United States Army Corps of Engineers. Later in life, he ended his military career as a Lieutenant Colonel in the Army Reserve. After serving in Vietnam, he returned to college and graduated from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga with a bachelor’s degree in Business, followed by a master’s degree in Business Administration. He worked for many years as vice president of the Jim Berry Company. He also served on the Chattanooga Area Veterans’ Council and held membership in many other civic organizations as well.
Ronnie was a long-time and faithful member of Hickory Valley Christian Church where he served for many years as an Elder and in various other leadership positions. Serving the Lord and helping people were central to Ronnie’s rich and fruitful life.
Ronnie loved being in the outdoors and had an endless appreciation for God’s handiwork. He was an avid hiker who thought nothing of hiking 10-15 miles in a day.
After returning from the war, Ronnie married his high school sweetheart, Patricia Kay Brown, a girl he had known his whole life. They settled in Chattanooga, raised their two children, Gregory and Rebecca, and soon became active members of their community. In June of this year, Ronnie and Patricia celebrated their 50th year of marriage. Ronnie will always be remembered and cherished by his family as a loving husband, father, and grandfather. He will also be remembered by many as a devoted brother, cousin, uncle, and friend.
In addition to his parents, Ronnie was predeceased by his son, Ronald Gregory Williams II. He is survived by his wife, Patricia (Brown) Williams; his daughter, Rebecca Reeves, and her husband, Travis; his granddaughters, Caroline and Julia Reeves; his siblings, Bill (Rose) Williams, Pat Williams, Curt (Judy) Williams, Terry (Terri) Williams, Susan (Andy) Owens; and many nieces and nephews.
Due to the current Covid restrictions, there will be a small family graveside service. In the future, (date TBD), there will be a celebration-of-life service to include all of Ronnie’s friends and family.
Those who wish to remember Ronnie in a special way may give gifts in his memory to Johnson University at 7900 Johnson Drive, Knoxville, Tn. 37998 or Hickory Valley Christian Church at 6605 Shallowford Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
