Carley Sickinger went the distance at No. 1 Singles with the sixth-ranked Irene Recuenco.
The No. 7 West Florida Argonauts shutout the short-handed Lady Flames, 7-0 on Sunday afternoon at the Ralph "Skeeter" Carson Complex.
"I was proud of our ladies. It's not easy to play a top 10 team with half of your team out with the flu, but these girls represented Lee well today. Their attitude and fight was first class," said Lee head coach Patric Hynes.
The Lady Flames did not have anybody play at No. 3 doubles. Lauren Trammell and Sierra Donaldson lost to Irene Recuenco and Manon Meulenberg, 6-1 to clinch the doubles point for the home team.
Carley Sickinger and Dana Moreno fell to Karolina Silwanowicz and Gabriel Araujo, ranked No. 9 in the South Region, 6-3.
Carley Sickinger battled The No. 6 singles player in the nation, Recuenco to a three-set tiebreaker before falling 3-6, 7-5, 10-5. Donaldson was topped by No. 23 Silwanowicz, 6-4, 6-0. Araujo defeated Dana Moreno, 6-2, 6-0.
At No. 4 singles Lauren Trammell took Samantha Echevarria the distance before losing, 2-6, 6-2, 10-7. Madeline Benson suffered a 6-3, 6-0 defeat to Lais Bicca at No. 5 singles. Lee did not play at No. 6 singles.
The Lady Flames (3-2, 1-1) will get back to work on Thursday as they travel to Lincoln Memorial at 2 p.m. West Florida improves to 5-1 on the year and 4-0 in the GSC.
