A fire suppression system at the Life Care Center of Ooltewah was activated on Saturday evening which fire officials said saved the nursing home from suffering major fire damage.

At 5:40 p.m., a 911 call was received reporting a kitchen fire at the facility at 5911 Snow Hill Road. Since Tri-Community VFD was having their awards ceremony, the Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department responded to the Assisted Living facility and reported a small fire in a laundry bind.

The fire sprinkler system kept the fire contained to the janitorial closet.

The cause of the fire will be under investigation by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. No injuries were reported, but Hamilton County EMS was on the scene.  All residents were temporarily moved to another wing of the facility.

The Chattanooga Fire Department responded to the fire to assist Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department.
