Chris "Smokey" Madden of Gray Court, S.C. raced his #44 Team Drydene, Millwood Plumbing, Competition Racing Equipment sponsored Super Late Model to its second feature in three races Monday night at the Volunteer Speedway at Bull's Gap north of Knoxville.
Madden overtook leader Vic Hill and set sail over the field that included Saturday's winner in Virginia Brandon Overton.
Loudon's Cory Hedgecock was third with South Carolina's Ross Bailes fourth and Logan Roberson fifth officially.
The Southern Nationals mini series heads to Sweetwater, Tn., Tuesday night for a mid-week special at I-75 Raceway before heading to South Georgia for a handful of races. Dirtondirt.com broadcasts the races live on the Internet for subscribers of the website.
Meanwhile in Iowa, the Lucas Oil Dirt Late Model series tour invaded 300 Raceway in Farley for a $10,000 to-Win Monday showdown. Shooting the gap, Josh Richards, driving NASCAR Clint Bowyer's dirt late model, passed both Tennessee's Jimmy Owens and Florida's Kyle Bronson for the victory. Series leading Owens finished second to the #14 "iRacing, Ford Performance, Cometic Gaskets" sponsored winner, with Tim McCreadie third. Blairsville's Jonathan Davenport was 6th and Shane Clanton of Zebulon was 8th overall.
The next LODLM event will be Friday in Iowa, leaving some to speculate whether or not some racers may join the Summer Nationals in progress in the nearby region.
