Erlanger East Hospital Named Among “Best Maternity Hospitals 2020” By Newsweek

  • Tuesday, July 28, 2020

Erlanger East Hospital is named among “Best Maternity Hospitals 2020” by Newsweek. The distinction was awarded to 231 hospitals in 36 different states, including four in Tennessee.

The distinction recognizes facilities that have excelled in providing care to mothers, newborns and their families, as verified by the 2019 Leapfrog Hospital Survey. Newsweek partnered with The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit organization that reports on the safety and quality performance of healthcare facilities in the United States. The hospitals were recognized for achieving low rates of C-section, episiotomy and early elective deliveries while following crucial protocols to protect mothers and babies.

“I am extremely proud and privileged to work with such a passionate and dedicated group of physicians, nurses, and support staff providing outstanding safe, quality care to our mothers and babies at Erlanger East Hospital,” said Martha Weeks, CEO of Erlanger East Hospital. “These nationally recognized metrics are considered the gold standard in providing optimal care during one of the most important events in a mother’s life. As part of the Erlanger Health System, we are honored to be acknowledged as a leader in quality maternity care not only nationally, but also regionally in the state of Tennessee.”

Erlanger East reported 2,947 births in fiscal year 2019-2020. This is the highest number of births Erlanger East has seen in the last five years. Erlanger East also surpassed Erlanger Baroness Hospital for the most births in a fiscal year. Even with the higher number of births, Erlanger East was able to routinely implement national best practices to provide quality care for mothers and newborns, said officials.

“Our outstanding team at Erlanger East has worked tirelessly to ensure that our patients receive the best care possibly during this special time,” said Traci Josephsen, assistant chief nursing officer of Women’s and Children’s for Erlanger Health System. “We are honored to receive this recognition and continue to strive to put the health and safety of all our patients in the forefront of all we do.”
