Daniel "Dan" Redmond Jernigan, 92, passed on August 8, 2020.

Dan attended The Grove School in Paris, Tn.; The McCallie School in Chattanooga and received his B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Vanderbilt University and M.S. in Electrical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology. He was a proud veteran of the Korean War.

Dan retired from the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) where he was the Transmission Planning and Engineering Communications Branch Chief. He was the U.S. Representative on the International Commission on Large Electrical Utilities.

Dan’s two great loves were duplicate bridge and travelling with his daughter Amy. He was a Bridge Game Director, Club Manager and Teacher for the Unit 26 Bridge Club in Chattanooga. Dan was most proud of his selection to be on the American Contract Bridge Club Goodwill Committee. He was a passionate supporter of the Committee’s work on active ethics, awareness of those with disabilities and support for junior programs. Dan was a member of the Mountain City Club and The Walden Club.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 55 years, Reba Harris Jernigan.  

Dan is survived by his beloved daughter, Amy Swift Jernigan (David Blakeman), sister-in-law, Doris Harris, nephews, Chris Harris (Tina), Ron Walker (Linda), Todd Walker, four great-nieces and one great nephew.

A Celebration of Daniel’s life will be held in the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Friday, Aug. 28, at 10:30 a.m. with Chaplain Brian Davis officiating. Honorary pallbearers are: Stan Carnahan, Chris Harris, Tracy Jarvis, Michael Jinks, Michael Smelcher, and Perry Voclain.

We respectfully request that all current mandates set forth by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs be adhered to. This includes “social distancing and wearing masks at all times while on the premises.
