Retired From Erlanger Hospital After 40 Years

Bertha Mae Hughes, 87, passed away on Tuesday August 4, 2020 at her home.

She was born Sept. 19, 1932, in Madison, Al., to Louis Russell and Elmira Richmond-Russell. She was preceded in her death by her parents, eleven siblings, and grandson, James R. Baldwin. 

She retired from Erlanger Hospital after 40 years of service. She was a faithful member of Westside Missionary Baptist Church where she served on the Deaconess Board and in the gospel choir.

To cherish her memory, she leaves behind her loving husband of 68 years, Robert Hughes; daughters, Linda (James Jr.) Baldwin, Chattanooga, Brenda (Harvey Jr.,) Daniels, Decatur, GA., Bernice Hughes, Chattanooga, Pamela Hughes, Huntsville, Al., Miriam Kates, Phoenix, AZ; grandchildren, Angel (Richard) Moore, Chattanooga, Jonathan Baldwin, Chattanooga, Stephen Kendricks, Chattanooga, Harvey (Rosalynn) Daniels III, Alpharetta, GA, Michael Kendricks, Chattanooga, Nathaniel Robinson Jr., Atlanta, GA, Natasha (Marvin) Luke, Phoenix, AZ; Richandra Moore, Murfreesboro, TN; great-grandchildren Asha and Mia Larson-Baldwin, Greenville, SC, Jaleah Kendricks, Michael Kendricks Jr., Keydren Kendricks, Chattanooga, Harper Lee and Harvey Daniels IV, Alpharetta, GA, Cameron Luke, Phoenix, AZ; great-great granddaughter, Maliyah Broadnax, Murfreesboro, TN., and a host of other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be held 11 a.m.-3.p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 9, at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at 10am Monday, Aug. 10. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery.
