I think the work being done on the 75/24 interchange is nothing short of amazing. The crews have done an incredible job thus far. The planned changes on paper look like they should work. However, as someone who uses the interchange every morning I can already see that the result may only move the traffic jam a half mile or so south.
Anyone using the interchange can clearly see that the bottleneck seems to still be drivers not knowing that they need to be moving to the appropriate lanes far sooner than they do. The fix could be to have temporary, and eventually, permanent, large signage around Cloud Springs Road notifying north I-75 drivers to move to the left lanes for Chattanooga and move to the right for Knoxville. The bottleneck right at the split would be reduced.
I know the plan is to make special lanes for East Ridge traffic as well as the welcome center, and that will help, but it won't be enough. Please consider using signage to move the northbound 75 drivers to their appropriate lane ahead of the construction zone.
