In a rematch of last spring's USA South West Division title contest, the Covenant men's soccer team and Brevard played to a 0-0 draw on Saturday afternoon at Ives-Lemel Family Field.
It was the USA South opener for Covenant (5-3-2, 0-0-1 USA South) and the Scots extended their unbeaten streak to six straight. Brevard moves to 5-1-3 overall and 0-0-2 in league play.
The two teams were even throughout the match and narrowly missed on the few chances. In the first half, Covenant had five shots on target, but Brevard keeper Thiago Leopardi made stops on all of them to keep the Scots off the board.
Austin Berry had three of those attempts as the Scots peppered the net.
The Covenant defense was equally up to the task. It was the second straight clean sheet for the Scots, and the fifth one this year.
Covenant keeper Henry Hooks made saves on back-to-back attempts from Brevard's Rodrigo Garcia and Adam Spencer late in the first half.
The teams traded chances in the second half and Brevard nearly won the match in the final seconds of regulation. Brevard's Trystan Wallace had an open look at the net with under 10 seconds left, but his shot went off the left post and bounced away.
In the overtime sessions, the opportunities became even sparser. Parker Owen got off the only shot of the extra time for the Scots, while Brevard had three attempts.
The match was the second 0-0 draw Covenant has produced this season (Emory, Sept. 1).
Brevard out-shot the Scots 17-12 as Ryan Lynch took four attempts for the host Tornados. Berry led the Scots with four shots, three of which were on target. Hooks made four saves for the Scots, while Leopardi made six for the Tornados.
Covenant returns to Scotland Yard on Wednesday to face Maryville (7 p.m.).
