Sharon Knechtel
Sharon Knechtel went to heaven on January 29, 2021, with family by her side, ending her lengthy struggle with Alzheimer's.
She was born January 30, 1944, to Reverend Merrel Price Callaway and Elizabeth Fountain Callaway who were missionaries. In 1962 Sharon graduated from Ben Lippen, a Christian boarding school in Asheville, NC. In 1961 at the time she met Carleton Knechtel, son of missionaries Edward and Dorothy Knechtel, he was a senior at the University of Chattanooga after having graduated from Brainerd Jr. High School in 1953 and Bob Jones Academy in 1956. Sharon and Carl were married on August 6, 1962 in Chatham, NJ. They have four adult children, Carolyn, Paul, Susan and Kathy and four minor grandchildren, Cal, Luke, Salem and Karis. Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, Feb. 19, from 12-3 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home with guests requested to follow all COVID-19 safety protocols, including wearing a mask and maintaining distance.
A private family service will be held on Saturday, Feb. 20, with interment at Hamilton Memorial Gardens officiated by longtime family friend Reverend Richard Kilpatrick.
