Mocs' Indoor, Beach Volleyball Adds Grace Frigaard To List Of Signees

  • Thursday, February 18, 2021

The Chattanooga Mocs Indoor Volleyball program and head coach Travis Filar have announced the signing of Grace Frigaard, a product of James Wood High School in Winchester, Virginia.

Frigaard will also join the Chattanooga Beach Volleyball program, led by head coach Darin Van Horn, who is in its second season competing as an NCAA Division I program in the Ohio Valley Conference (OVC).

The 6’0 outside hitter was a 2020 Under Armour All-America All-Region honoree after earning Region 4C and Class 4 Northwestern District first team honors as a junior in 2019.

Frigaard helped lead her team to the state quarterfinal round in 2019-20, the school’s first appearance in five years.

“I continue to be incredibly excited about the future of Chattanooga Volleyball and how special and talented this 2021 class is already,” said Filar.

“With the addition of Grace, it just continues to strengthen us on the offensive side of the ball, but most importantly our program improves because we are adding another driven, competitive, mature, and positive individual to our team and culture.”

Frigaard is expected to add depth and talent to the outside hitter position while showcasing a high-powered swing. She looks to make an immediate impact when arriving on campus in the fall.

“Grace has an absolute cannon of an arm, is a very high-level point scorer, very dynamic in out of system play as an attacker, and because of her length and athleticism, she is just scratching the surface as a 6-rotation outside hitter,” added Filar.

“She really strengthens our group of pin players as I think she can play either on the left or right side, and one thing you can tell when talking to Grace right away is that she not only wants to be great, but is also willing to put in the time and work necessary to become great and impact our program in a big way.”

In the classroom, Frigaard carried a 4.17 GPA and was a three-year varsity all-academic award winner, in addition to landing a spot on the honor roll all four years and holding membership in the National Honors Society.

Full 2021 Signing Class: Liz Tomlin (NE), Aleya Kennedy (AR), Chloe Bryan (TN), Marcelle Baez-Carlo (PR), Chandler Alter (GA), Macy Nugent (TX)* & Grace Frigaard (VA). *early enrollee
