Judith “Judi” Broome Stewart, 76, unexpectedly went to be with her Lord and Savior on March 12, 2021.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold B. Broome and Marian Jenkins Broome. She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Stacy C. Stewart, two loving children, Cameron (Ivonne) Stewart and Heather (Cherish) Stewart, six grandchildren and one great-grandchild, sisters, Sandra Hoffman and Linda Sundstrom.

She was born on July 15, 1944, in Augusta, Ga., and graduated from Richmond Academy.  She then graduated from the University of Georgia and began her teaching career, which lasted 46 years. She was teaching in Augusta, Ga., when she met her future husband, who was stationed at Ft. Gordon, Ga. When he returned from Vietnam they got married and moved to Virginia, where she taught at Petersburg Junior High, then to Atlanta, teaching in DeKalb County and in 1983 to Chattanooga. She taught sixth grade math at Eastdale, G. Russell Brown, Barger, and Tyner Middle. She then became an Assistant Principal at Tyner High, East Lake Middle, Chattanooga Middle and Washington Alternative School. She loved teaching and wanted her students to succeed. Even as the assistant principal she would always find time to help a student struggling with assignments or personal problems. Her door and heart were always open to students and staff.

She loved the Lord and wanted to serve Him. She taught Sunday school and she and Stacy were the high school group youth leader for Lithonia Presbyterian Church. She became an elder of Lithonia Presbyterian Church and later a deacon at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church.

She loved her children and grandchildren. You could always find her on the soccer field or gym cheering and coaxing them on. She loved going camping or to the beach with them and watching them grow up through the years.

Visitation will be held on Friday, March 19, from 5-8 p.m. at Lane Funeral Home.

Funeral services will be held at 4 p.m. on March 20, at Signal Mountain Presbyterian Church.

Arrangements have been entrusted to Lane Funeral Home, 601 Ashland Terrace, Chattanooga, Tn. 37415, www.lanefh.com, 423 877-3524.
