Greenway Dog Park Needs Attention

  • Saturday, April 10, 2021

Our seven-month old indoor Yorkie puppy just loves the Greenway Dog Park so she can run and play with other dogs and people.  Unfortunately, the city of Chattanooga’s lack of maintenance makes this dangerous for small dogs.

The bottom of the gate to the small dog area is 4-5 inches above the ground and many small dogs can easily slip under and get out of the fenced in area. Our puppy, one of the smaller dogs, can slip under the gate at a run. We’ve seen other dogs several times her size can slip under too.

Other dog owners said they have called in and complained but nothing has been done.  I called 311 and had a nice conversation about a month ago, still no action.

It is not safe to mix a five-pound Yorkie with a 100 pound Pit Bull or German Shepherd, even if they are not aggressive.

How can we convince the city to attend to this relatively minor maintenance item and restore the safety of the dog park? Is there a name of someone with the responsibility for the Greenway Park?
