Soddy Bank Building Has Centennial Celebration Saturday

  • Monday, May 10, 2021

This year the Soddy Bank building celebrates 100 years of being part of the local community, from 1921-2021. Join in a centennial celebration at the Soddy, Daisy, and Montlake Historical Association Museum, 11298 Wall St., Saturday from 10 a.m.-3 p.m.

The old Soddy Bank building holds 100 years of history and more. The Brogdons have been stewards of this building over the last few decades and the associations wants to help them celebrate this old building that is the current home to the Good Old Days Museum.  Coal mining was king in 1921 and SDMHA operates the museum here to help make visitors aware of this rich past.  It opened in July 2017 and has hosted over 5,000 visitors from over 40 states and three foreign countries.

The Historical Association has asked local car enthusiasts to bring their 1920’s era automobiles and other antique cars for display.  Streets will be closed for the day and visitors are asked to park in the Soddy Church of God parking lot of off Back Valley Road.

There will be no fee for touring the museum on Saturday.  It will be open the regular hours, from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. There will also be displays in the parking lot outside of the museum.

There will be performances by local musicians and food available for the day.  Organizers will be offering their take on the “Plenty Burger” - a Chow Now classic, as well as Moon Pies and a soft ice cream machine will be set up.

Steve Smith will highlight the unique history of the bank and give a presentation on the Capital Campaign progress and donor recognition at noon.  A cake cutting is also part of the celebration.

There may even be a few items for sale to help raise money for the Capital Campaign and the Historical Association that will be part of a drawing and prizes.  Also SDMHA caps and T-shirts will be available along with the Good Old Days books.  All "sales" are considered donations to the museum capital campaign on this special day.
