Former McCallie track and field standout, Hakim McMorris finished third at the PAC 12 Track & Field Championships this past weekend. Competing at Loker Stadium on the campus of the University of Southern California this past weekend, McMorris had an impressive showing. The 6’4”, 190 pound Cal-Berkeley sophomore won the 100, 400, 110 high hurdles, high jump and long jump during the two day, 10 event competition. According to McCallie track coach Mike Wood, only a disappointing showing in the pole vault prevented him from winning the overall event.
McMorris, a 2018 McCallie graduate, was a two time state decathlon champion and a state champion in the long jump and 300 meter intermediate hurdles during his time as a Blue Tornado.. He was the topped ranked high school decathlete in the country his senior year and broke McCallie Olympian Michael Bingham’s school record in the decathlon.
Coach Wood recalled, “Hakim was a slender freshman when he came out for track at McCallie, but by his junior year he had turned himself into a tremendous track and field athlete. Hakim is very intelligent and highly motivated with a bright future and working with him was an incredible experience for me.”
