The Chattanooga Symphony & Opera will present the final concert in the 2020/21 First Horizon Instrumental Series at First Horizon Pavilion on Friday, May 14, at 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 15, at 3 and 7 p.m.

Sponsored by Coco-Cola Bottling Company, Grieg & Strauss will include Grieg's beloved Holberg Suite and one of Strauss's earliest works, Serenade for Winds. The program will also feature contemporary Native American composer Jerod Tate's Chokfi and Anton Bruckner's Os justi, transcribed by CSO Music Director Kayoko Dan.

“This final concert of the season opens with Jerod Tate's Chokfi, an exhilarating work with driving rhythms and spirited articulations featuring a string orchestra and percussion,” says Kayoko Dan, CSO Music Director. “The string orchestra will then perform Bruckner’s Os justi, originally written for a chorus and transcribed by myself as one of my pandemic projects, and Grieg's famous Holberg Suite. The concert will conclude with Strauss's Serenade for Winds, written when he was only 17. This youthful work already exhibits his mature musical style, and with its signature peaceful and beautiful ending, I wish for our next season, 2021-22, to bring peace, hope, and more live music to the Chattanooga community.”

To assist with social distancing, the concert will feature smaller ensembles of musicians and limited audience sizes. Tickets will not be sold at the venue and attendees will be required to wear masks, follow social distancing guidelines, and adhere to the CSO's COVID-19 related concert health and safety standards, which can be found at chattanoogasymphony.org/concert-health-safety.

Tickets are available at www.chattanoogasymphony.org or by contacting the CSO Box Office at 267-8583. The box office is also open for limited office hours to assist patrons in-person each Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at 736 Georgia Ave., Suite 101.
