Betty Runelle Hurst Steadman
Mrs. Betty Runelle Hurst Steadman, age 93 of Dalton, Georgia, passed away on Saturday, January 8, 2022 after a year of declining health. At the time she was residing at Regency Park Health and Rehab Center.
She was born in Oliver, Ga. on Dec. 17, 1928 to Thomas Hurst and Rozzie Hodges Hurst. She received her R.N. degrees at Ga. Baptist Nursing School in Atlanta and worked in the nursing field her entire career except for her time as director of the Whitfield County Parent/Child Center during the latter part of her career.
While working she also raised six children. She was a person of deep faith and always very active in the church. Her sincere compassion for those who were less fortunate in life was a manifestation of her belief in leading a Christ-focused life. She was blessed with a beautiful singing voice and frequently sang solos as a part of the church service while she was married to her pastor husband. Her primary joy in life was her children, and she remained close to them and their families. She enjoyed hosting family gatherings at her home during holidays and other special occasions and was truly the center of her family. She leaves with her children many joyful memories of her time with them – as youngsters and as adults. She also loved visiting her siblings and their families in Savannah, Ga.
