Sandra Wrinkle Pinson, 83, of Chattanooga, passed away on Tuesday, January 18, 2022.

Sandra was born in Dalton, Ga., on June 19, 1938, to the late Dimple and Lloyd Wrinkle. She graduated from Dalton High and received her undergraduate degree from Auburn University. Sandra strongly believed in the importance of education and devoted much of her life to this mission. She was a schoolteacher, taught children’s Sunday School for many years and went on to work with Parents as Teachers, as a parent educator. She was teaching fifth grade at City Park School in Dalton when she was married to Bill Pinson at First Baptist Church in Dalton. They transferred to Miami, so Sandra then began teaching first grade at Miami Beach. Bill tells the story of walking down the hall of her school and hearing all the noise from the classrooms, until he got to Sandra’s room. She was very quiet and gentle, and always held the children’s attention. It was a gift. They moved to Chattanooga in 1970. Sandra was a dedicated member of Oakwood Baptist Church for 32 years, and then Ridgedale Baptist for 17 years and the Harvest Sunday School Class until her health kept her from attending.

Sandra had a remarkable gift of creativity that she left signs of wherever she went. She was an amazing seamstress, she made all the curtains and accessories in every home she and Bill lived in, among many other things. She never failed to please with her cooking, and her baking was exquisite. She had an eye for color and art and saw the beauty in the things around her. She had a love for lighthouses and a good mystery novel. She will be missed by many and will carry on through the creations she has left behind and those she helped to educate.

She is preceded in death by her sister, Dolores Quarles.

Sandra is survived by her loving and devoted husband Bill of 57 years, and their three children, Mark (Paige) Pinson, Conner (Sarah) Pinson, and Kate Pinson; six  grandchildren, Mary Katherine (Manny) Norrell, Gabby (Brent) Bott, Liam Pinson, Hannah (Kegan) York, Bradley Pinson, and Ebba Cox; one great grandchild, Samuel York; many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends, and her loving dog, Annie.

A Celebration of Sandra’s life will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 22, in the funeral home chapel with Dr. Doug Plumlee officiating.  Interment will immediately follow the service at West Hill Cemetery in Dalton, GA.

We would appreciate honoring her with flowers or donations can be made to Ditch the Debt / Ridgedale Baptist Church, 1831 Hickory Valley Road, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
