Herbert Zeilke
Herbert Thomas “Tom” Zeilke, Jr. passed away peacefully on January 26, 2022 with his daughter and granddaughter by his side, after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia. He was born in 1941.
Tom was predeceased by his parents, Herbert Thomas Sr. (Etta H.) Zeilke and former wife, mother of his two daughters, Marsha Thompson.
Tom was a graduate of the Baylor School in Chattanooga and Vanderbilt University.
He had a long, successful career in banking at Hamilton National, First Tennessee, American National, Suntrust, and Cornerstone. He retired as vice president of SmartBank.
Tom enjoyed playing tennis, gardening, reading history and spending time with his family. He was a long time member of the Kiwanis Club in Chattanooga as well as a former Deacon and member of Brainerd Presbyterian Church.
Raised on Lookout Mountain, Tom will be remembered as a loving father and grandfather, and as a true Southern Gentleman. He was also known for his sweet smile, and the best of hugs. He was always happy and had a positive attitude. Tom was a kind, compassionate man who always had a strong work ethic and integrity. He made many friends over the years; he never met a stranger.
He is survived by daughters, Missy (Randy) Rogers, and CeCe (Joe) LaRue, grandchildren, Tanner (Holly) Rogers, Logan Rogers, Taylor (Bree) Tittle, Ally Tittle, Hudson Tittle, great-granddaughter, Susan Rogers and his companion, Judy Klemm.
A celebration of life with be held on Thursday, Feb. 10, at 6:30 p.m. at Grace Works Church, 6445 Lee Highway, Chattanooga, Tn. 37421.
