Hilda Hardy Neighbors, born to James Ira Hardy, Sr. and Elra Steele Hardy, went home to be with Jesus on January 4, 2022.

She was born on May 29, 1933, and raised at her old home place 10 miles below Rockford, Alabama. Hilda was one of ten children, five girls and five boys.

She graduated from Coosa County High School and attended Berry College in Rome, Ga., as well as Samford University in Birmingham, Al. Hilda had a variety of hobbies and part-time jobs including home-making, crafting, sewing, cooking, floral design, and bank telling. She also very much enjoyed music and led the worship choir at Coosada Baptist Church in Coosada, Al. She was also very involved within her local church. She was a Sunday School teacher, led many different committees, sang in the choir, and was a leader for anything that needed to be done. Hilda was most recently a member of Peavine Baptist Church in Rock Spring, Georgia. She loved the Lord and was a student of the Word.

In her younger years, Hilda was very active in her local 4-H club and was the recipient of many different awards.

She was preceded in death by her parents, James Ira Hardy, Sr. and Elra Steele Hardy; her loving husband of 63 years, Jack E. Neighbors; and 8 siblings.

Left behind to cherish Hilda’s memory are her children, Bob H. (Pam) Neighbors, Jackie N. (Gary) Gross, and Chris T. (Kelly) Neighbors; her younger sister, Rebecca H. Prince; nine grandchildren, Brandon (Jenni) Neighbors, Staci (Luke) Wilson, Stephanie (Matt) Cooper, Kimberly (Eric) Holland, Daniel (Jennifer) Gross, Ashley (Michael) Cross, Kelsey (Cole) Johnson, Kayla Rose Neighbors, Kora May Neighbors; and 10 great-grandchildren. 

The family will receive friends on Monday, Jan. 10, from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Chattanooga Funeral Home East Chapel on S. Moore Rd.

A Celebration of Hilda’s Life will be held at 12 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 10, at the funeral home, with Rev. Denny Patrick officiating. She will be laid to rest at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 10, in the Chattanooga National Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Peavine Baptist Church, 1089 Peavine Rd., Rock Spring, Ga. 30739. 

Arrangements are under the care of Chattanooga Funeral Home Crematory and Florist East Chapel, 404 South Moore Road, East Ridge, Tn. 37412.
