Two days after defeating the #1 team in the country, #9 Dalton State did battle with #15 William Carey (Miss.) and played to a 1-1 draw in SSAC play at Dalton Stadium in Dalton on Sunday afternoon.
A beautiful play that began with a long 40-yard pass from Guilherme Franca saw Rasmus Andersson receive it and make a gorgeous foot flip from behind his body and control the ball enough to send a cross to Justin Riescher who found the back of the net in the 27'.
Carey pressed for the equalizer and found paydirt in the 64' when a corner kick was cleared out of the zone but right to a WC player who booted back into the box and in a scrum of players where Reon Dawes collected the ball and kicked it through.
#9 Dalton State (Ga.) goes (7-0- overall, 1-0-1 SSAC) with the tie, while #15 William Carey (Miss.) sits at (5-1-3 overall, 1-0-2) with the draw.
Justin Riescher scored his team leading 8th goal of the year with Guilherme Franca and Rasmus Andersson picking up assists on the continuous play.
Reon Dawes subbed into the match and snatched a goal in the 64' to tie the match with Joaquin Bermejillo getting the assist on the play. Michael Barrueta once again played fantastic between the posts getting 4 very tough saves as he was challenged by the pressing Carey offense.
It will be a mid-week match for the #9 Roadrunners as they travel to Nashville, Tenn. on Wednesday, October 5 to take on Fisk (Tenn.). Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. (CT).
