Jackson “Jay” Day Abel, Jr., 44, of Dayton, passed away on Sunday, November 27, 2022, at his home.

He was born in Chattanooga on December 13, 1977, the son of Jackson Day Abel, Sr., and Brenda Evelyn (Kelley) Abel, who survive him. 

Jay lived in Dayton all of his life and was a graduate of Rhea County High School Class of 1997. He loved all things baseball, followed the Denver Broncos, and was a UT fan. He was a history buff and was a fan of Theodore “Teddy” Roosevelt, Jr. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Dayton. 

In addition to his parents, Jay is survived by his sister, Jacinda (Scott) Trent of Rogersville; his nephew Collin Trent; and his three nieces, Kinsey (Seth) Huner of Spring Hill and Morgan Trent and Kinley Trent, both of Rogersville. 

Funeral services for Jay will be held in the funeral home parlor on Tuesday, Nov. 29, at 7 p.m. with Rev. Milton Knox and Coach Lynn Lane officiating. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Jay’s name may be made to the Rhea County High School baseball team. 

Jay’s greatest wish is that you would accept Jesus as your Savior so we can see each other again.

The family is being cared for by Vanderwall Funeral Home in Dayton, Tn., where they will receive friends on Tuesday, Nov. 29, from 6 p.m. until the time of the service.
