Four Covenant Track And Field Athletes Earn All-USA South Honors

 Four Covenant track and field athletes earned All-USA South honors as the Scots opened the USA South Championships on Wednesday at Berea College.

Mattie Parker, Sarah Holler, Emma Christensen, and Micaiah Allison all collected honors on the first day of the two-day meet. The Covenant women currently sit in third with 29 points, while the men are eighth with nine points.

Parker made the podium for a second straight year in the 3,000-meter steeple as she placed second in the event with a program-record time of 11:56.23.
Parker's program record was one of four set by the women's team on Wednesday.

Holler and Christensen also collected All-USA South honors in their events on Wednesday. Holler tied her program record with a height of 2.85 meters in the pole vault to place third overall. Christensen finished third in the high jump with a mark of 1.45 meters.

Allison earned his third career All-USA South honor in the 3,000-meter steeple as he placed third with a time of 10:12.55.

In prelim events, Elysse Carrillo blazed to a pair of program records. Carrillo had the top qualifying time in the 400-meter as she finished in a program-record time of 59.52, becoming the first Covenant female runner to break 1:00 in the event. She also qualified for the finals in the 200-meter with a program-best time of 26.67.

The final runs for both events take place on Thursday.

Anna Baker also had a qualifying time in the 400-meter hurdles as she broke her own program record with a time of 1:12.19. Christensen ran the 100-meter dash in 13.32 to qualify for that final on Thursday.

Men's qualifiers for Thursday's final races include RJ Bascom in the 110-meter hurdles (18.28) and Noah Norman in the 400-meter event (50.77).

The Scots had several other top-10 performances. Ian Sneller placed seventh in the 10,000-meter run with a time of 34:59.47, while Lydia Dorman was seventh in her 10,000-meter event at 45:13.41. Jae Woods placed fourth in the discus with a program-record-tying distance of 33.70 meters and Woods also placed seventh in the javelin at 27.45 meters.

Covenant concludes the USA South Championships on Thursday.
