Lastoria Named As Lee University Assistant AD

  • Friday, July 1, 2022

The Lee University Athletic Department is pleased to announce the promotion of Carman Lastoria to the position of Assistant Athletic Director of Marketing and Communications.

Lastoria is entering his 11th year with Lee Athletics. He served his first five years as the Sports Information Coordinator, working for legendary Sports Information Director, George Starr.

He has spent the last five years in the role of Athletic Communications Director.

Over the last 11 years Lastoria has overseen the growth and development of the Lee Athletic Brand as the Flames grew from NAIA leaders to an NCAA D2 power. Under his leadership, Lee Athletics established a thriving social media presence across Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube.  Lastoria led two successful redesigns of the Lee Athletic website and brought increased exposure to the department by establishing post-game interviews with players and coaches, expanding video content, developing in-game social media coverage in real time, and enhancing the livestreaming of home games with announcing, graphic packages, and advertising. He continues to build strong relationships with local media such as Mix 104.1 WCLE, The Cleveland Daily Banner, WDEF TV, and The Chattanoogan.

"I am pleased to announce that Carman Lastoria's title has been changed to the Assistant Athletic Director of Marketing and Communications. Carman has done an amazing job leading our Athletic Communications Department the past five years," said Lee Athletic Director Larry Carpenter. "He is a multi-talented individual who is a vital part of our leadership team and is the person in charge of telling our story. With the change, he will take on additional responsibilities on the marketing side of athletics to go along with his duties in communications. We are excited for him and can't wait to see what new things his department has in store for the future."

Lastoria also manages the corporate sponsorships for Lee Athletics, recently inking multi-year deals with Simply Bank, Pizza Hut, and Zaxby's. He serves the university at large as a member of the school's marketing team, and is the Sports Editor for the Torch, Lee's quarterly alumni magazine.

"I'm honored and humbled to continue to serve the Lee Athletic Department as the Assistant Athletic Director," Lastoria said. "I want to thank President Walker and Coach Carpenter for their faith in me and for giving me this tremendous opportunity. We are coming off the greatest year in the history of our proud program and I'm surrounded by the best coaches, staff, and athletes in the nation. Lee University has been a part of my life since I came here as an undergraduate student in 2004. It's home for me and my family. I look forward to leading my talented team and together we will work hard to take our marketing and communications efforts to the next level as we continue to tell the story of Lee Athletics with clarity and excellence."

Lastoria graduated from Lee with his Master of Business Administration in May of 2022. He received his bachelor's degree from Lee in 2008.

He and his wife, Shalee, reside in Cleveland, Tenn. with their beautiful five-year old daughter, Bexley Ruth. Shalee graduated from Lee with her master's degree (2009) and educational specialist degree (2022) and is currently a Special Education Coordinator for the Bradley County School System.
