Rhea County Emergency Management Director Brad Harrison was recognized by the Tennessee Department of Health.
In a letter to the County Commission that was read by Interim County Executive Jim Vincent, Emergency Preparedness Director Robert Goff praised Mr. Harrison for doing an outstanding job in emergency management.
Mr. Harrison took over as Emergency Management Director in 2020 after serving in emergency management for five years. He had started out as a deputy sheriff and arson investigator for the Rhea County Sheriff’s Department. He has also been a volunteer fireman for 23 years.
The exercise was held with the Federal Emergency Management Agency, Centers for Disease Control, Tennessee Emergency Management Agency, Tennessee Department of Health, Tennessee Medical Reserve Corps, Tennessee Valley Authority. The exercise was part of the 2022 ingestion pathway exercise cycle for Sequoyah Nuclear Plant.
“We know of no other jurisdiction in the country that has performed this type of exercise, especially as part of a radiological emergency preparedness exercise. Thank you for your support of the exercise. We look forward to continuing to work with you to improve response plans and resources."
