Herman Lee Owen, Jr., 81, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away Friday, August 12, 2022. 

Herman was a graduate of Tyner High Class of 1959.  He was employed by Turnball Cone Baking Company in downtown Chattanooga and later J.C. Penney Eastgate. He was also an independent distributor of Little Debbie Snacks for seven years in North Carolina and eventually became the district sales representative for McKee Foods Corporation then retired after more than 40 years of service. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Mildred Owen; sisters, Melba Wallin and Julie Haynes; and granddaughter, Tiffany Greathouse.

Herman is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Leah Odessa Owen; son, Jeffrey Owen; daughters, Crystal Knittel, India Harder and Vanessa Owen; brother, Stanley Owen; sisters, Peggy Smith, Beverly Baugh, and Vickie Brennan; grandchildren, Andrew Knittel and Rachel Carithers; great-grandchildren, Kyle Greathouse, Noah Carithers, Luke Carithers, Ivy Carithers and Braxton Knittel; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the Lakeview Fort Oglethorpe Warriors football team where his great-grandson Kyle Greathouse is a  sophomore and manager of the team. 

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Tuesday at Heritage Funeral Home & Crematory, Battlefield Parkway.

Funeral services honoring the life of Herman will be at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, in the funeral home chapel with Minister E.W. Dempsey. Interment will be in Standifer Gap Seventh Day Adventist Cemetery.
