Well that didn't take long. What do you expect from a politically correct hire from of all places, Atlanta, to solve our crime problem. Before I am called a racist let me make it perfectly clear I have no problem with hiring African-Americans from outside Chattanooga. Bryan Johnson was one of, if not the best, school superintendents we ever had.
I lived in Atlanta for 25 years. The APD has been one of the most incompetent and corrupt in the nation forever. So yeah, lets hire somebody from the APD for our police chief. Who's next, an employee of the Chicago Police Department?

It took you, Douglas, even lesser time to jump on the back of the new chief. Now all your alters will jump in shouting their YEAH! YEAH! Doug! Sic'er!
Actually, it shouldn't have taken this long. And if matters had been properly and "honorably" handled at the beginning the new chief wouldn't have to come in and clean up the do'.
The false report filed after the fact where originally there was no report of a young Airman home on leave, assautled by an airheaded cop WWB (walking while black) in the highly racially mixed community he was born, had friends, attended school, attended college and joined the Air Force.
Initially there was no report. I know, because his wife (also military at the time, heading to the war zone, with him on short leave) and I went to headquarters on Amnicola Highway, believing a report was on file, to obtain a copy and was told since it was listed as a "field interview" there was no written report. They only began putting "field interviews" in writing after that incident with the Airman and our attempts to obtain a written report. As a cover?
Later and mysteriously a written report (false one) suddenly appeared in the files about that incident involving the Airman. Of course, the report was written in a way to protect the cop.
We'd have never known such a report magically appeared after the fact if another cop online hadn't been bragging about it and inviting others on a discussion forum to go and request a copy. Such a report could have had a negative impact on a young man's military career, as his position in the military required security clearances. Low leveled security clearances aren't difficult to pass. However, the higher up an individual goes the more restrictive obtaining a security clearance becomes. But someone(s) didnt' care. Their goal was to protect someone obviously unfit to serve.
Imagine what it feels like to serve your country, possibly be sent away to die for that country, only to return home and not be allowed to freely walk in the community you lived all your life without being jacked up, verbally and physically assaulted by someone who should have been there to protect you and thank you "for serving the country?"
As the cop described in the above situation, we often get to see these same individuals later down the road in the news committing other crimes and unbecoming acts; roadrage, rape, statutory rape, assaults, domestic spousal abuse, child abuse, DUI/DWI. Yet they received promotions, everything from Sargeants where they're placed in charge of vulnerable impressionable newly recruits to detectives and other high promotions. Some were even awarded "Cop of the year." But where there's no accountability the entire barrel of apples tends to become rotten. All the way up the food chain.
Dougie, if you were really worth your, I'll imagine, honorable status as a military veteran yourself, you'd be onboard with the new chief in attempting to clean up what has been an all too often dishonest, dishonorable field. One that has gone way beyond protecting those unfit to serve: Making excuses for them and retaliating against citizens brave enough to go public, complain and attempt to sound the alarm.
But then again, there's the apples and trees, aren't there? And peas in pods?

Police unions crying about “losing confidence” in the new chief is like their same attacks against Neal Pinkston when he went after police corruption. The result was a propped-up opponent to Pinkston in the GOP primary and a focus on his errors during the campaign.
Unions have a purpose, but the purpose should not be making the appearance of backing corruption before knowing all the facts. Something else is going on with the feds, and these people will look silly if there is indeed a larger probe happening.
