Dalton State took the bite out of the Bulldogs early scoring 4 first half goals and cruising to a 7-2 non-conference victory over Union (Ky.) at Dalton Stadium on Wednesday evening.
Dalton State (Ga.) improves to (1-1 overall) with the win, while Union (Ky.) falls to (0-2 overall) with the loss. Brianna Hurtado and Ava Vandoren each score twice. The two scores were the first in Hurtado's young career.
Reyna Flores, Guadalupe Martinez, and Ana Silva also scored on the evening with Martinez also picking up an assist.
Flores and Silva each score for the first time on the season. Riley Bennett, Lauren Wright, and Molly Duncan also assisted on goals.
The Lady Roadrunners held a massive 27-7 shot advantage including 15-6 on frame. The 1st string defense was solid in front of Brooke Alvarez not allowing a shot in the 1st half. Mattie Dollar stepped in for the last 45 minutes and recorded 4 saves, stopping 2-of-3 penalty shots.
Dalton State will hit the road next on Saturday, September 3 when they travel to Lawrenceville for the Georgia Gwinnett Classic to take on LSU-Shreveport (La.). Kickoff is scheduled for 11:00 a.m.
