St. Nicholas School Hosts Chattanooga Premiere Movie: "Unrivaled: Sewanee 1899" Jan. 26

  • Monday, January 23, 2023

The Chattanooga Premiere of the movie "Unrivaled: Sewanee 1899" is being presented at St. Nicholas School this Thursday. A reception begins at 6 p.m., with the movie beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the St. Nicholas Chapel & Fine Arts Center at 7525 Min Tom Dr.

In attendance will be the producer of the movie, Norman Jetmundsen, as well as the new Head of School Robert McGehee.

The Chattanooga community is invited to attend the event.

Officials said, "Unrivaled features the undefeated 1899 Sewanee football team as they went 12-0 for an unforgettable season. This one is for football fanatics. As you know, the South loves their football and—according to film producer and attorney Norman Jetmunsen—this admiration likely started with Sewanee’s eventful 1899 season."

“This 13-member team had the honor to play the South’s first 12-game season in 1899—100 years before I was born. Wow,” Mr. Jetmunsen said.

Officials said, "It was 1899, and in the span of just six weeks, Sewanee would play twelve opponents and go undefeated. Only one team would even score on them. That team was Auburn coached by the famous John Heisman. More astonishingly, they traveled 2,500 miles by steam locomotive playing ' games in six days. This team was truly 'Unrivaled” in the annals of college football history. The 1899 Sewanee Tigers went undefeated in a 12-game season playing the biggest teams across the South and at one point playing five teams in seven days.

"Please come join us for an evening of sports, history and an opportunity to come together as a community."
