Moc Wrestlers Improve To 4-0 With SoCon Weekend Wins

  • Sunday, January 29, 2023
The Chattanooga Mocs completed their Southern Conference tour of South Carolina with a 31-6 triumph at The Citadel. The win puts the Mocs alone atop the SoCon at 4-0.

The win included three tech falls and a major decision. The seven bonus points helped clinch the match after the seventh bout.

"I'm happy with how our guys looked to be first in each position," Coach Kyle Ruschell said. "First in contact, first in offense and building those important bonus points. Even in our two losses, our guys wrestled and there's just a couple of adjustments there to get their hands raised.

"Overall, we wrestled hard and I'm proud of that."

The Mocs complete a 3-game road trip next Sunday at fellow SoCon unbeaten Appalachian State.
They take on Mountaineers in Boone, N.C., at 2 p.m.

WEIGHT-BY-WEIGHT

149: Noah Castillo 22-5 tech fall at 5:21 over Ethan Willis

Notes: Castillo earned nine dual points on the SC road swing including a major Friday night at Presbyterian.

157: Lincoln Heck 4-3 decision over Anthony Allen

It was an eventful first period with a takedown and escape for both tying it at 3-all. Allen started on bottom in the second and Heck built riding time to cinch the decisive point.

Notes: 6-2 on the year in matches ending within two points

285: Logan Andrew 5-4 loss to Jonathan Chesser

Andrew looked to be in control after a 4-2 opening three minutes with two takedowns. They started neutral in the second with Chesser getting a takedown to tie it up. His escape in the third got the win.

125: Logan Ashton 4-3 loss to Blair Orr

Ashton scored a takedown and escape. Orr got a reversal and escape. The difference was riding time for the Bulldogs 125.

133: Blake Boarman 3-2 decision over George Rosas

Lots of actions and shoots in a low-scoring affair. Boarman’s takedown with 15 seconds clinched the win breaking a 1-1 tie.

Notes: 1st career dual win for Boarman

141: Franco Valdes 13-1 major decision over Dillon Roman

Dominating performance from Valdes. Four takedowns a 4pt near fall that felt like it lasted a minute and riding bonus constructed the major.
