A recently-received copy of the recent newsletter of the East Tennessee Historical Society (ETHS) Newsline, that demonstrates the intent of our state’s citizens to preserve the past while progressing into the future of the Volunteer State.
Each city, county, or combined surrounding counties have access to treasure troves of information about people, places, and events both before Tennessee’s admission to statehood in 1796 and to the present.
The degree of activity varies from chapter to chapter.
Newsletters quarterly compilation of several articles, lectures, book reports, exhibitions, etc. all provide historical data that is informative to both homegrown Tennesseans or new arrivals from other states.
Volume 35, Number 1, (www.eastTNhistory.org) of the ETHS is filled with references to the many activities of that association.
Prominently featured in said edition is a reference to the new book “Honkey Tonkitis: On the Road with Carl Butler and Pearl” based on the lives of the country music duo by author Bradley E. Reeves.
The Chattanooga Area Historical Association (CAHA), PO Box 8755, Chattanooga, TN 37414 also meets monthly and produces the quarterly Chattanooga Regional Historical Journal (www.chattanoogahistorical assoc.org) and the $20 annual dues fee is a good informative bargain for new and old citizens.
