The 21st-ranked Chattanooga Mocs are third through 36 holes at the Steelwood Collegiate. The Mocs 2-under 574 at Steelwood Country Club was fueled by the leader of the pack.
Senior John Houk's 10-under 134 gives him a 1-stroke lead over Kentucky's 135. Teammates Paul Conroy and Samuel Espinosa join him in the top 20, tied for 20th at 146. Ward Harris has 148 with Dalton Chuba adding 155.
The Mocs opened with a 1-under 287 behind a blistering start from Houk. He led after 18 holes with an 8-under 64 propelling his squad into a tie for second with Memphis, three behind Alabama.
Espinosa was next on the list with 73 while Conroy and Harris added 75s. Chuba shot the drop with 78.
The Mocs came back in the afternoon 18 with a similar result. This 287 was a bit more balanced with under-par efforts from Houk (70) and Conroy (71). Espinosa carded another 73 which was matched by Harris. Chuba posted 77.
The Crimson Tide (568) hold a 3-shot lead over Kentucky (571) in second. The Mocs are third, a managable six strokes back, followed by Memphis (581), Virginia Tech (588) and Kansas State (588) rounding out the top 5.
Chuba leads the Mocs off of No. 1 at 10:15 a.m., Eastern time, Sunday morning. He's followed in 9-minute increments by Harris, Espinosa, Conroy and Houk. Live scoring and pairings are linked above.
