The ninth ranked Tennessee Vols (AP) raced out to a 15-0 lead while draining six of their first seven shots and never looked back as they cruised to their second consecutive exhibition game victory over Lenoir-Rhyne.
Tennessee took a commanding 49-20 lead into the locker room and won convincingly 90-48. The Vols were led in scoring by Jonas Aidoo who was 5-7 from the field and finished with 14 total points. Dalton Knecht finished with 13 points on 6-10 field goals, Jordan Gainey also finished with 13 points.
The Vols shot 58.7% (37-63) from the field, 33.3% (8-24) from three and were 8-10 from the free throw line.
Thirteen Vols saw action in the game and each player added their name to the scoring column. Eight Vols saw their first action in the Food City Center.
Zakai Zeigler and Santiago Vescovi did not play. Zeigler did not dress out and sat by coach Barnes for most of the game. Coach Barnes said Vescovi returns to campus tomorrow. He had traveled home to be with his family.
The Vols defense suffocated the Lenoir-Rhyne offensive attack who missed their first six field goal attempts, limiting them to just 18-71 shooting (25.4%) for the night. The Vols out rebounded Lenior-Rhyne by a 46-32 margin.
Tennessee begins the 2023-24 regular season Monday at 6:30 p.m. against Tennessee Tech, live on SEC Network+ from the Food City Center
