On February 15, 2023, Robert W. “Butch” Moorhouse, husband, father, papaw, brother and friend, departed this life for his heavenly home after a hard-fought battle with Lewy Body Dementia, at age 68.
At the time of his homegoing, he was surrounded by the love of his wife, children, grandchildren and many loved ones at his home in Benton. Butch was of the Baptist faith and trusted in his Lord Jesus Christ to carry him through his illness. Butch was a 1972 graduate of Polk County High School and had many memories being a part of the PCHS football team, but his most valuable memory was meeting and marrying the love of his life Donna. Butch was an accomplished businessman and co-owned and operated Moorhouse Grocery and Moorhouse Service Station for 33 years, with his wife. Butch had a special place in his heart for children and gave away more packs of chewing gum than he ever sold. Butch also served as a member of the Polk County Civil Defense/Volunteer Fire Department, City of Benton Police commissioner, and a volunteer coach for his son’s baseball teams. Butch was loved by all that knew him and was a friend to many. He loved fishing and was a true family man.
Left to cherish the many memories include his wife of 50 years, Donna Woody Moorhouse, who lovingly cared for him during his illness; sons, Stan (Kim) Moorhouse and Bo (Jamie) Moorhouse; grandchildren, Jake, Chloe, Brice and Abi Moorhouse, all of Benton; sister, Rita (Milton) Smith; two very close “children,” Kathy Woody Belcher and Ricky Woody; and several nieces and nephews, whom he loved dearly.
Butch was preceded in death by his parents, Robert W. and Nell Evelyn “Jeep” Moorhouse; grandparents, Richard “Hot Shot” and Katie Sue Moorhouse, James Felton and Nell Stanley; and special friends, Cotton Evans, David Evans, Jeff Ward, Gene Earwood, Neil Higgins, Poley Lewis, Pat Bradford, JR Disney, Frank Harvey Cummings, Norman Dunn, Gene Woody, Sonny Woody, James Woody, L.B. Morgan, and a host of others that helped make lifetime memories of the “Spur.”
The family would like to express their deepest heartfelt appreciation to Amedisys Hospice for Butch’s care, guidance and support to his family members.
