Exactly 32 years to the day that Nichols Fleet Equipment opened its doors, it held a groundbreaking for a brand new facility at the Centre South Riverport.

The company was started by David Nichols, Sr. in a one-room office trailer with rented shop space nearby for his first installations.

His two sons – David Jr., and Nick – have since joined him at the family-owned and operated business.

David Sr. said when he built the current NFE shop in 1997 he was horrified by how big the place seemed. "I never in a million years thought we'd outgrow it; I was convinced I had made it too big."

He said in 2018, "But sure enough, 20 years later came around and we found ourselves out of space, needing to bring on more employees, and totally landlocked at our E. 31st St. location. We realized that a new facility had become a must for us, and we're excited to say that we've begun working towards that goal."

Nichols purchased Lot 31B at the Riverport, which is off Amnicola Highway.

They have recently added Nichols Fleet Rentals, as an option to rent equipment that they sell.

Officials said, "Since 1991, Nichols Fleet Equipment has been building the best service trucks in the industry. Not only do we represent the best product lines available, we make them better through meticulous installation and customization.

"We take the extra steps to build our trucks the way we'd want them built if they were our own, and our team prioritizes exceptional service after the sale to provide you the support you need to keep your NFE truck working hard for years to come."
