Georgette Short Edwards, 93, passed away on March 26, 2023.

She was born on Jan. 17, 1930, to the late George J. and Agnes M. Short. She graduated from Chattanooga Central High School in 1948.

Georgette was married to the late Billy E. Edwards and enjoyed being the wife of a high school football coach, secondary school principal, and avid hunter, fisherman, and gardener. She graduated from the University of Chattanooga with a Bachelor of Science and a Master’s Degree in Elementary Education, and then she taught the Third Grade at White Oak elementary for 25 years.

She is survived by her two children, Mandy (Zack) Coley and Jeff (Melanie) Edwards; four grandchildren, Shannon (Heath) McClure, Amy (Matt) Valvocin, Nick (AnnaLea) Edwards, and Justin (Shantel) Edwards; eight great-grandchildren, Jenny McClure, Jackson McClure, Grace Valovcin, Abigail McClure, Jacob Valovcin, Nate McClure, Stella Edwards, Sunetta Edwards, with Number Nine, Cameron William Edwards to be born in May.

Georgette was a long-time member of Red Bank United Methodist Church where she served as a Sunday School teacher in the Shaw-Murray Class, a faithful member of the Prayer Shawl Committee, and founder and chairperson of the Worship Banner committee as well as numerous other roles and responsibilities in her church. She loved to quilt, garden, and cook – She called every member of her family “her favorite” and made them all feel just like they really were the “favorite.”

She spent the last two years of her life as a resident of Morning Pointe in Hixson. Although she absolutely missed her home, her church, and her Volvo, she became very content with her new friends and new life in the assisted living facility. Georgette most recently enjoyed the Monarch Butterfly Project at Morning Pointe. Her family thanks Morning Pointe for filling Georgette’s days with activities, smiles, and friendships!

There will be a private graveside service on Wednesday, March 29, 2023, at Chattanooga Memorial Park.

The family will host a Celebration of Life Service at Red Bank United Methodist Church on Monday, April 10, at 11 a.m.. There will be a lunch directly following the service. The family wants to visit with friends then and hopes that everyone will share memories of their beloved mother and GMother.
