Top 20 In The Hunt For UCRA $7,500 Championship: Rookie Hughes Leads

  • Steve Hixson

Rookie United Championship Racing Alliance competitor Jesse Hughes of Crossville, Al. leads the current points standings after the first two events of the 2023 championship season. The 44-year-old racer pilots his #22 "Jimmy Gary's Body Shop, Liberty Bank, Cowart Construction, Sharp Tax Service, ATR and Brody Jones Farms" sponsored racecar whilst his son Tyler comes up through the 602/Sportsman ranks.

Hughes' slim 11 point lead over fellow "Baman" Kasey Hall comes to fruition from his 3rd and 7th place finishes respectfully at his home track Fort Payne Motor Speedway and Tazewell Speedway.

Behind Hughes and Hall are winners of the first two events of 2023 on the UC RA, championship tour Marty Lunsford, and Matt Shannon.

It's a long way until October ends the season where somebody could pick up $7,500 if they mate the eligibility of the series.

Hughes, being a rookie, is also eligible for the $1,000 Rookie of the Year bonus.

The series has no event scheduled for the month of April as the lone event at Fort Payne Motor Speedway has been moved to the first weekend in May on Saturday night, May 6. Full points can be seen online at UCRAracing.com or on their Facebook social media page.
