Longtime Welder Was A Scholar Of Religion

Austin Howard Newby, 47, of Chattanooga, passed away on April 6, 2023, at his home.

Austin was born August 8, 1975 in Chattanooga. He graduated from East Ridge High School where he gained welding skills that became his lifetime career. He played football for the Pioneers all four years of school. His recent hobby was collecting Hinderer knives. Austin was a scholar of religion, studying all faiths and their holy books. He loved tattoos, most kinds of music (really loud!), ghost hunters and scary movies. He loved all five of our family cats. He had many fans and faithful friends.

He was preceded in death by his father, Charles Newby, half sister, Jewel Wigley Hearn; grandparents, Edwin and Barbara Cabe, Reuben and Thelma Newby.

Austin’s surviving family members are parents, Kevin and Cathy Lewis; brothers, Charles (Chad) Newby (Katie), half brother, Tim Newby and stepbrother, Tyler Lewis Smith; stepmother, Sharon Newby; aunt Angie Cayea (Allen), uncle Gerald Taylor; young niece, Charlotte Lee Newby; many cousins and greats.
