The Community Association of Historic St. Elmo will host the neighborhood’s annual Memorial Day Weekend Yard Sale on Saturday from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Over a dozen homes throughout the neighborhood will hold yard sales featuring a variety of items ranging from furniture, clothing, antiques, home décor, art, jewelry and more.
This year, CAHSE is partnering with the Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center to honor America's fallen heroes through this neighborhood tradition. Neighbors can pledge 15 percent of their yard sale proceeds to support the Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center's mission to preserve and share the stories of courage, sacrifice and patriotism that define the Medal of Honor. Participating yard sales will be easily identified by displaying a special "Great American Yard Sale" sign in their yard and by a unique icon on the public map of yard sales.
"This tradition is taking on a deeper meaning this year, as St. Elmo has found a way to turn it into a way to give back," said Kenny Turpen, director of development at the Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center. "Each participant pledging a portion of their proceeds is helping us preserve and share the powerful stories of courage, sacrifice, and patriotism that define the Medal of Honor. We're grateful to be welcomed into this community and are proud to stand alongside St. Elmo residents in this effort."
