Frank Leroy Payne, 86, of Harrison went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, April 27, 2023.

Mr. Payne was a lifelong resident of Hamilton County and retired from Terex and was formerly employed with Service Auto Parts for 18 years.

He was a graduate of Central High School where he played baseball and football and was state champs in football in 1951-1954. He loved Alabama Football but would pull for TN Vols as well. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force known as “Navy Airedale.”

He was a longtime member of Greenwood Baptist Church.

Mr. Payne was preceded in death by his parents, Cecil & Pearl Payne; and two sisters, Norma Keefe and Brenda Payne.

He is survived by his wife, the love of his life of 65 years, Mary (Pat) Frankie Payne; son, Rick (Karen) Payne, Ringgold; two grandchildren, Travis (Hyapatia) Payne, Ringgold; Hillary (Chris) Overby, Chickamauga, Ga.; two step-grandchildren, Jarrod Wolfe ( and daughter Carley) and Jarrelle Wolfe; six great-grandchildren, Mylee, Haven, Harper and Owen Payne; Heidi and G.K. Overby; four brothers, Larry Payne, Michael Payne, Jerry Payne, and Greg Payne; many nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, May 1, at 1 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Wayne Griffin and Rev. Brian Cannon officiating. Burial will follow at Old McDonald Cemetery with Wayne Griffin, Scotty Roark, Travis Payne, Chris Overby, Tony Ferguson, and Greg Edmonds serving as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Don Paul, Bobby Gann, David Dill.
