Peggy Ann Brown Bates, 88, of Chattanooga, Tennessee, passed away on Sunday, June 11, 2023.

A native of Jackson, Ms., she was a member of Tyner United Methodist Church and the Republican Women’s Group. Peggy enjoyed spending time with her friends, gardening, exercising and country music. Peggy worked occasionally in retails sales but by far her greatest joy was being a devoted mother and wife.

Peggy was preceded in death by her husband, Leslie J. Bates; two sons, Lt. Commander John Stacy Bates (USN), and Pvt. William Michael Bates (Army); parents, Dewey Lamar and Jessie I. Finch Brown; and sister, Migonne Slaughter.

She is survived by her two godchildren, Riley Rodgers and Rhett Rodgers, and many friends including caregivers Donnie and Tonya Bright, and Jimmy and Michelle Rodgers.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 15, at Chattanooga National Cemetery.
