Charles Thomas Bowman
Charles Thomas Bowman, 88, of East Brainerd, passed away on Monday, July 31, 2023, in a local health care facility.
Born near Ft. Payne, AL, Mr. Bowman was a retired real estate developer and builder in East Brainerd and Harrison (Hurricane Creek and Mountain Shadows).
He was a longtime member of the Elks Lodge #91 and was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.
He enjoyed hunting and fishing with his mother, sons, nephew and friends in Florida and Alaska and in his later years enjoyed traveling throughout the US and internationally to Ireland, Italy, and China.
He loved investing and watching the stock market, was an avid TN Vols fan and also enjoyed playing poker, blackjack and going to the casinos.
Ken DeFoor says this of his dear friend – “Charles and I have been acquaintances for almost 50 years. I got to know him by selling carpet to him for his houses and he and Babs remains loyal customers until I became a developer and sold my carpet business. Through the years I grew to really appreciate Charles because he was always open about discussing business and answering any questions that I might have. He was and will always remain a true American success story but most importantly he was an honorable man for others to emulate for years to come.”
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Ann Bowman; sister, Bettye Bowman Queen; and his son, Terry Bowman.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Barbara C. Bowman; son, Jerry Bowman, Dayton, TN; sister-in-law, Glenda Carroll (Len); nephew, Lance (Missy) Smith, signal Mtn.; three nieces, Christa (Jody) McMahan and Patti Stinineger, all of Chattanooga; Melissa (Michael) McDowell, Kingston, TN.
A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, Aug. 3, at 6 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Jerry Arnold and Dr. John F. Cosgrove officiating. A private family burial will be held at Plowman Cemetery.
The family would like to thank Josh Youngman and Hearth Hospice and Alexian Brothers/Ascension Living for all of their love and care during Charles’ illness.
