  • Tuesday, August 15, 2023

James Lebron Laney, 73, of Springfield, Tennessee, passed away, surrounded by his loved ones.

Born on Sept. 10, 1949, in Chattanooga, he was a steadfast husband, father, brother, son, grandfather and a loving family man. A proud graduate of City High School, class of 1967, and college graduate from the University of Tennessee – Chattanooga, Lebron went on to build a diverse career. He rendered his services at Combustion and TVA, spent significant time at Savannah River Site, and finally, after a dedication of over 25 years, retired from Delight Products, a renowned Kroger company. He was also a proud member of the U.S. Army National Guard of Chattanooga.

Lebron was the cherished husband to Belinda Wilson Laney, and their bond of love and commitment remained unbroken for 54 illustrious years. Together, they raised two wonderful sons, Bronson and Brian Laney, who further added joy to Lebron's life through six beautiful grandchildren: Brandon, Brett, Braxton, Boston, Brock, and Kyla. The cherry on top of his blessings was his adorable great-granddaughter, Harper.

A man of passions, Lebron had a deep love for sports. It wasn't just the games but the players he adored the most—especially when those players were his children and grandchildren. He never missed an opportunity to be on the sidelines, cheering them on, relishing every touchdown, goal, and homerun. For Lebron, the stadium lights on a Friday night and the laughter and energy of a weekend game embodied the essence of family and community. Beyond the local playing fields, his heart held a special place for Tennessee Football. Rain or shine, win or lose, his spirit never wavered, and his loyalty to the team was unwavering. But Lebron wasn’t just a spectator. His adventurous soul took him to many places as he relished traveling. Whether it was a family trip, a quiet getaway with Belinda, or exploring new places on his own, he cherished every journey, every story, and every memory created.

Lebron’s legacy is one of love, commitment, and passion. To know him was to understand the depth of love one can have for family, the thrill of a game, and the beauty of life's journey. He will be deeply missed, and his memories will be cherished forever.

The family extends their gratitude for the outpouring of love and support during this time. Details about the memorial service or celebration of life will be shared.
