Children’s Hospital at Erlanger welcomes two new pediatric specialists, Drs. Charles Gomez and Paul Schwartzberg.

Charles Gomez, MD, is a board-certified pediatric orthopedic surgeon and Chattanooga native. Dr. Gomez began his medical career at Erlanger nearly 20 years ago as an EMT and patient care tech in the CHE Emergency Department. During his time at CHE, Dr. Gomez learned the importance of patient and family-centered care.

He earned his medical degree from the University of Tennessee Health Science Center in Memphis. He completed a residency in orthopaedic surgery at Loma Linda University School of Medicine in Loma Linda, Ca. He completed his fellowship in pediatric orthopaedic surgery at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine where he studied at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center. Dr. Gomez is excited to return to CHE where his story began so long ago and give back to the community.

Dr. Gomez said, "I could not be more excited to give back to the institution that has given me so much in my life. This is where I met my beautiful wife, English, who is a pediatric ER nurse, and where I realized that making a difference in a family's life doesn't require degrees or titles, it simply requires empathy, compassion, and dedication to the needs of others. It will be my greatest honor to return to Erlanger and work with such an excellent team and to join this phenomenal group of orthopaedic surgeons.”

Paul Schwartzberg, DO, MBA, FAAP, is a board-certified pediatrician joining Children’s General Pediatrics. He earned his doctor of osteopathy from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed an osteopathic internship at Mercy Suburban Hospital in Norristown, Pa. Dr. Schwartzberg then completed his pediatrics residency at the Penn State College of Medicine in Hershey, Pa., before completing his fellowship in ambulatory pediatrics at Brown University and the Hasbro Children’s Hospital in Providence, R.I. Dr. Schwartzberg earned his master of business administration from Monmouth University in West Long Branch, N.J.

“We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Schwartzberg to and Dr. Gomez back to Children’s Hospital at Erlanger,” said CHE CEO Dr. Charles Woods. “They both are exceptionally dedicated physicians and we look forward to their contributions to our community.”
