Covenant Women Second, Men Third At Berry College Cross Country Open

The Covenant College men's and women's cross country teams began their season on Saturday morning at the Berry College Cross Country Open. 

In the 8k race, the men took home third place, going up against Berry, Morehouse, Shorter, and Birmingham Southern. 

The women finished behind Berry to take second place in the 6k, racing against runners from Berry, Shorter, and Birmingham Southern. The Scots had four runners in the top 15.

In the men's race, 2022 CCS Rookie of the Year, Daniel Bowles led the Scots with a time of 27:44.52 which placed him 15th. This was the second-lowest 8k time in his college career. 
In his first meet as a collegiate athlete, Ethan Saiki posted a time of 28:08.12 to take home 17th.  Right behind Saiki was Josiah Mellott with an 18th-place finish and a time of 28:38.86.
Troy Daniel, another freshman for the Scots, placed 22nd finishing the 8k in 29:05.30.
John Purtill was 27th with a personal record of 29:21.99. He beat his previous best by 31 seconds. 
Alex Burns in his first college race took 35th with a time of 30:19.65.
Ethan Caswell had a time of 31:05.67 and placed 39th. 
Ethan Fox took 42nd place, finishing the race in 31:56.22.
Will Holland placed 46th, completing the meet in 33:41.03

In the women's race, Evangelia Berry led the Scots in her first career college meet. She placed 10th with a time of 26:15.97. Jocelyn Gartman was right behind her with a 26:36.80 time and an 11th-place finish.  Lydia Dorman began her senior year with a time of 26:47.97, finishing 13th. 

Coming in 15th place was Maggie McGinley, who completed the race in 27:14.97.
Lydia Moore placed 16th for the Scots with a time of 27:22.57.
Claire Mellott completed the 6k in 27:42.08 to take 17th in her collegiate debut. 
Taking 23rd was Emerson Tillery in her first race as a freshman with a time of 28:56.19.
Anna Dolan took 28th place and finished the meet in 29:56.24.

The Scots travel to Berea for the Mike and Mary Kay Johnson Invitational on Sep. 16th.
